While visiting one of our clients sites yesterday, we noticed a mountain of expanded polystyrene packaging out the back. The type that encases & protects new computer equipment for shipping.
It’s big, bulky and a real pain when it comes to getting rid of it. No room in their council bins, so offering a solution, we loaded it up with a view to taking it to the tip. On arrival at the BCC Waste Transfer station at Chandler, the attendant pointed us in the direction of the recycling centre where we were able to unload into a large skip for recycling.
I was under the impression that it was a non- recyclable and the BCC’s “Householders Guide to Waste” does indicate this but if you do a have any quantity of this material it appears that there is an alternative. A much better outcome than having it go into ‘the pit’ and end up in landfill.
Planet Ark also have some information on other sites for the disposal of expanded polystyrene foam at this link.
